Although I have played classical piano since I was a child, and accordion only for the past few years, the accordion is now my instrument of choice. Being part of a community that is exploring the instrument and pushing the boundaries of what the accordion can do is extremely exciting.

AccordionWorks is an ensemble for advanced players that focuses on technique, repertoire, and performance. Our last project focused on the tangos of Astor Piazzolla.

We are currently on hiatus. Check the calendar and newsletter for upcoming dates. We will resume this spring.

At our rehearsals, we have focused on technical and ensemble skills such as:

How to make four different types of accents
How to play advanced glissandi, smears, and cluster chords and, just as important, when to play them.
Left hand fingerings for jazz chord combinations
Subtleties of reed selection and voicing
How to maneuver through tempo changes and stay together
How reed selection, dynamics and articulation contribute to orchestral voicing

The music is arranged for five parts, including bass accordion. We have one bass accordion player but two bass accordions, so people are welcome to try out the bass accordion on a song.

This workshop is for advanced players only.
